The USU Eastern women’s volleyball team is preparing for the Region 18 tournament that will take place this week, despite losing against College of Southern Idaho and Salt Lake Community College on Friday and Saturday.
The Golden Eagles will head into the Scenic West Athletic Conference Region 18 Tournament hosted in Twin Falls, Idaho and face North Idaho College first.
“Everything’s just clear slate for Regionals,” said the Golden Eagles’ head coach Brittney Lee.
Lee has had the postseason in mind since she first stepped on the court with the women to begin her first season at USUE.
“After seeing the team play the very first practice, I wanted to come out and win Nationals because I know when our team plays at their best, we can hang with any team,” said Lee.
USUE lost on Friday to CSI in four sets. The Golden Eagles came away with the win in the first set with a score of 25-23. They fought hard in the second set to be dealt a 27-25 loss. The Golden Eagles deflated after the loss in set two and lost the next two sets 25-17 and 25-12, respectively.
“We just got dead,” said Lee. “We stopped having energy, cheering when we do good things. It was almost expected instead of excitement because we did it.”
For the Golden Eagles against CSI, Paige Eyring tallied nine kills and four blocks, Taina Soranzo tallied 32 digs, five assists and one ace, and Marlee Adams tallied nine kills and nine digs.
The Golden Eagles were then swept on Saturday against SLCC, losing the three sets 25-20, 25-17 and 25-14.
For the Golden Eagles against SLCC, Vanessa Pawlak had 10 kills and six digs, Jessica Snarr had four kills and five blocks and Mckenzie Burrows had two blocks and 19 assists.
USUE will begin the Regional Tournament on Friday.
