Lady Eagles hard at work in preseason

By Sierra Trujillo

With a new head coach and a relatively young team, the USU Eastern women’s basketball team is working hard as a team to be ready when the regular season begins with conference play in December.
Head coach Chelsea Warburton is in her first season as head coach with the Golden Eagles. Although she worked as an assitant in previous years and as head coach of the USUE volleyball team, this is her first experience of taking the lead with the basketball team.
The Goleden Eagles are also working with a very young team, with only five sophomores. While a challenge because the girls are all having to learn to work together, Warburton said that its a learning experience for both her and the girls.
“We’re all new at it, we’re all trying to learn from each other but also learn new system, new style,” said Warburton.
The main component that the team is working on in the preseason? Communication, said Warburton.
“We learned that at our scrimmage we had a couple weeks ago that we need to talk more, communicate,” said Warburton.
The Golden Eagles will continue to play in preseason tournaments and non-conference games, before starting conference play on Dec. 10 at Snow College. They will play their next home game Nov. 20 against the Salt Lake All-Stars at 5:30 p.m.
