Mystery solved

By Sun Advocate

Thanks to Roy and John Tallerico, who both called to explain the Mutual Gas & Service sign painted on the boulder in Willow Creek Canyon. Both lived in the little town of Willow Creek when they were young. Before the 1960s, the road between the Carbon Power Plant and Duchesne was dirt and its route took it right past the billboard boulder. Roy remembers driving the old road and getting lots of flat tires as a result. When the road was reconstructed, it was rerouted by cutting through a hill. That change put the road a few hundred yards away from the big rock.
