The American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life fund raising effort took place at three venues last weekend: the Toy Atwood Baseball Complex in Price, the Carbon County Golf Course and the North Springs Archery Club. While results are still being tallied, Relay board member Ruth Metzger said Monday afternoon that proceeds reported so far stood at a bit more than $20,100. “I’m sure it will be a few thousand more than that,” she added.
Speakers this year included pathologist Leo Hardy and dentist Paul Martinez. “Treat your body with respect,” Martinez advised listeners. “Get yourself checked out and listen to your dentist.”
“You may not know me by face,” Hardy said, “but I know quite a few of you by biopsy.” He said that cancer, one of the leading causes of premature death, is ubiquitous, and every instance of the disease is unique with its own personality.
