Now six years running, students at Castle Valley Center enjoyed annual prom festivities with assistance from schools and businesses in the area.
Volunteers from AmeriCorps VISTA started celebrating prom at the center in 2000. However, the responsibility has been turned almost entirely over to high school students and community volunteers.
Local businesses donate decorations, refreshments, flowers and other arrangements.
Carbon High School students participate by wearing formal wear and dancing with students at the center.
This year, high school students came from the National Honor Society; Carbon Students against Destructive Decisions (CSADD); Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA); and the international club.
Each participant received a boutonniere or corsage, walked in the promenade, had photos taken and spent the rest of the afternoon dancing away.
