Roger “Yank” Clarke stands outside of the Golden Rule Mission Monday checking out the restoration efforts recently completed on the historic building in downtown Helper. Clarke, director of the mission, says that about 25 people are currently housed at the mission. Recently a grant allowed the center to restore the front of the building back to its original look when it was the Avalon Hotel. The three-story brick building was constructed in 1922.
