Carbon High setter Monica Shorts spins out after hustling for a net ball. The Lady Dinos lost their first home match in four seasons against Delta Thursday night. It took five games to decide the outcome of the match. |
After winning the first two games of the match, Carbon volleyball fell to Delta in their first home loss for the last four seasons.
Carbon outscored Delta 25-17 in the first game and 25-14 in the second.
However, Delta waited Carbon’s strong play out and games three, four and five were riddled with Dino errors.
“We started fragmenting and let it slip away,” Coach Bruce Bean commented. “We went away from our strengths and they got some momentum.”
Delta capitalized on Carbon’s mistakes and won games three and four 20-25 and 21-25 respectively.
The Rabbits then finished the comeback in the shortened fifth game, winning 15-13.
Carbon had 31 hitting errors in the game. Bean stated that each of those errors were a free point to their opponents.
But Bean said he is not concerned by the loss. He noted that the team has followed up with several strong practices and that the humbling experience could prove valuable to the team late in the season.
“We are still looking at being region champs,” Bean asserted.
Carbon competes at Emery tonight. The varsity game begins at 6:30 p.m.
