Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Helper 2003 animal licenses – may be purchased Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the police department on Main Street.
Flu vaccinations – Clinic hours at the health district in Price are Monday to Friday, 3 to 4:30 p.m., and Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Defensive driving class – A four-hour course is slated Jan. 18 at 8 a.m. at CEU college center in Price. Motorists completing the class receive 50-point reductions from Utah driving records. Fees required. For information, contact the Utah Safety Council toll-free at 1-800-933-5943.
USU food manager course – will be taught March 11, 13, 18 and 20. Fees required. For information, contact the county USU agent.
Food handlers classes – Two-hour sessions are slated at the health department in Price on Feb. 12 and March 12 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Test fees required. Classes will be offered at the health district in Castle Dale on Jan. 16, Feb. 20 and March 20 at 4 and 7 p.m.
HEAT program – Applicants for the federally funded energy assistance program must have identification, Social Security cards for all household members 18 years of age or older, copies of utility bills and proof of preceding month’s income for all employed people in the home. Foster Care Foundation – Carbon-Emery residents interested in becoming foster parents may contact Greg Cowan at 636-0210.
Parenting for teens – The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Participants learn about resources, assistance to help youth return/remain in school, parenting/life skills, cooking and recreation opportunities. For information, call Terry Willis at 637-0281.
CASA – Court appointed special advocates are trained volunteers appointed by judges to speak for children appearing in court. Screenings are conducted. For information, call Tarasina Compagni at 636-3431.
Frontier project – works to empower local families. The program needs youth mentors. For information, contact the project at 637-1497.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Price senior center. Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly. Meetings are open to the public.
Carbon County RSVP – Volunteers ages 55 year and older are needed. Mileage reimbursement and liability insurance provided. For information, contact the RSVP office at 637-9118.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Residents may contact the center by calling the 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Foster parents – The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.
Helper library – Hours are Monday through Wednesday from noon until 8 p.m.; Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. For information, call the library at 472-5601.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; closed Sunday. Story hour is Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Children Pet Pals activities are Tuesday from 5 to 5:30 p.m. The library will give away old magazines until Jan. 31. The library is sponsoring a food drive for the local pantry through Jan. 11. One can of donated food satisfies one fine. For information, call library at 636-3188.

Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Helper mining museum – From Oct. 1 to April 30, hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. From May 1 to Sept. 30, hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tours may be scheduled. For information, contact Helen Tonc at 472-3009.
Prehistoric museum – From Nov. 1 to March 31, hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. From April 1 to Oct. 31, hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.For information, residents may contact the museum at 613-5060.
Cancer screening – Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Women 50 to 64 may qualify for free mammogram vouchers. Call the health department at 637-3671 to schedule appointments.
Infant immunization clinics – The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Winterfest – will be presented Feb. 8 in the gym at Notre Dame School. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Fees required. Activities include games, kiddie booths, refreshments and a silent auction. Tickets may be purchased at Oliveto’s, Hard Hat, Love Floral, the school office and at the door.
