Margie Briest
HELPER – God’s finger touched her and she slipped away from earth’s dark shadows to a brighter day. He saw the road was rough, and the hill was hard to climb and so he gently closed her eyes and whispered “Peace be Thine.” God took her to a better place, where she would have only peace and love behind the golden door. She is home.
Margie Jacobs Nelson Briest was born Sept. 10, 1906, in Sandovall, Ill., to Laura Stonecipher and Walter Jacobs.
She had many wonderful stores of traveling from Illinois to Utah in a covered wagon with her family. Our mother had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. She liked going on picnics, making quilts, crocheting and embroidering on kitchen towels, but most of all, she liked “holding babies”. If someone would mention, “let’s go”, she would have her bags packed.
She lived many places in Utah, but loved being in Helper and there over 40 years. Her happiest memories of growing up, was in Skull Valley. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held different positions over the years and later went through the temple.
Surviving family members include Bonnie (Leo) Paur, West Valley; Barbara (Ruben) Maldonato, Salt Lake; Nick (Joyce) Nelson, Elk Ridge; Don (Elaine) Nelson, Provo; Madeline (Charles) Bonomo, Salt Lake; Marilyn (Boyd) Bell, Price; Arlene (Ken) Roberson, St. George; Sheri (Paul) Reay, and Steve (Barbara) Briest, St. George. She was a six generation grandmother with 212 posterity.
