The number of wrestlers competing in this years Carbon Classic Wrestling Tournament on March 19 at Carbon High was not as large as last year.But the excitement was just as great.
Wrestlers ranging in age from four years olds to young nearly junior high age took to the mats and provided a lot of entertainment and competitiveness all day long.
In the end the hosting team, the Carbon Raptors, did very well amongst the more than 200 entrants that were participating.
The Carbon Raptors (this team includes kids from both Carbon and Emery counties) have had a great season so far, with team members winning individual firsts in many other meets.
The tournament at Carbon High featured three kinds of wrestling; folkstyle, freestyle and Greco/Roman.
In the folkstyle wrestling the Raptors placed well. In their weight and age classes Ike Allred, Brent Avery, Kenden Huff, Bryce Jackman, Lane Neese and Johnny O’Hearon all took first.Second place finishers included Austin Atwood, Jason Avery, Conner Fausett, Christian Johnson, and Haigen Wood.
Those taking third in the category were Luke Allred, Taylor O’Hearon, Tyler Procarione, Nathan Valasquez and Kenny Wood. Nico Valasquez took a fourth place while Jay Kraync took a fifth.
In freestyle wrestling first places were garnered by Jackman, Johnny O’Hearon, and Nathan Valasquez. Second places went to Atwood, Huff, and Neese. Third place honors went to Brent and Jason Avery, Taylor O’Hearon and Haigan Wood.
Johnson picked up a fourth place in the category.
In the Greco/Roman wrestling category Jackman, Neese and Kenny Wood all took first place in their respective weights.
Second place awards went to Huff and Procarione. Third place honors were given to Taylor O’Hearon, and Nico Velasquez.
The team will now continue to compete as the season progresses.
