Number 5 goes to the line. |
The CEU women’s basketball team had a good weekend swing, winning one of two in Rangley, Colo. The Eagles ran over Otero College 81-56 on Friday and then they played South Plano on Saturday, going down 62-84.
Otero had won eight straight games before getting shut down by the Eagles. Brandi King and Kendra Dalebout hit 15 points a piece to lead CEU to the win. King went 7 of 9 from the line and pulled in seven rebounds. Dalebout hit three of four three point attempts, blocked a pair of shots and rebounded six.
Kasey Day was also all over the boards with seven rebounds and Maquette Potts pulled in five. It was the good defensive play that held a hot shooting Otero to 20 points under their season average.
With no time to celebrate their success, CEU was back on the floor the next day to face an even tougher opponent. South Plano had just knocked off number one ranked Seward Alaska. Seward hadn’t lost a home game since 1991.
South Plano was on fire. The running game of the Eagles was not enough for the lightning fast Lady Texans. This time it was the Eagles turn to be out rebounded and out scored. Coach Paur was still happy with the fight his team put up against a very tough opponent.
Dalebout again led her team with 15 points. King contributed 11 and Veronica Siqueiros came off the bench for 11 as well. The Eagles hit only about 50 percent of their free throws and that hurt them. Dalebout and Day were active on the boards with 11 rebounds between them.
The team heads north to Twin Falls, Idaho for three games this weekend. They will continue to play on the road until Jan. 5 after which they will come home to host the annual alumni game at the BDAC.
