Carbon Republican Party caucus, convention – The caucus is scheduled March 25 and the county convention will be conducted April 25.
Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Free computer seminar – A two-hour session is slated March 5 at 9 a.m. at the senior citizen center in Price. To register, contact Malcolm Howard at 637-6040.
Flu vaccination clinics – are scheduled at the public health department Monday to Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Price history books – Residents may purchase the books in room 102 at the Price City Hall, at the CEU Prehistoric Museum and at the Helper mining museum.
Food handlers classes – Two-hour sessions will be offered at the health district in Price on March 20 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Classes are planned at the health department in Castle Dale on March 21 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Test fees required. For information, contact Claron Bjork at 637-3671.
CASA – Court appointed special advocates are trained community volunteers appointed by judges to speak for children brought before the court. No special or legal background required. Screenings are conducted on all volunteers. For information, call CASA coordinator Tarasina Compagni at 636-3431.
Frontier project – is looking for clean, used clothing for families and children in need. To donate, contact the project at 637-1497.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Price senior center. Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly. Meetings are open to the public.
Carbon County RSVP – Volunteers ages 55 year and older are needed. Mileage reimbursement and liability insurance provided. For information, contact the RSVP office at 637-9118.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Residents may contact the center by calling the 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
HEAT program – The federally funded home energy assistance program is accepting applications. Identification, Social Security cards and proof of past month incomes for all household members 18 years and older along with copies of utility bills are required. Applicants must schedule appointments by calling the HEAT office at 613-0100. Program closes March 31.
Cans for Care-A-Van – The service is conducting an aluminum can drive to help defray the costs of providing transportation to medical appointments for the elderly and people with disabilities. Bagged cans may be dropped off at Howa’s. For pickup, call the office at 637-9488.
Carbon County Humane Society – The non-profit organization offers monthly spay and neuter clinics at 98 North Carbon Avenue in Price. The group needs old towels and blankets. Members will pick up good used items for the group’s rummage sale. For information, call the humane society at 637-2908.
Carbon County Animal Shelter- AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Carbon County Housing Authority – The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The children’s library is open to housing residents Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Foster parents – The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.

Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Habitat for Humanity – is accepting applications for two homes. Volunteers and donations welcomed. For information, call Habitat at 636-3230 or stop by the office in the Carbon County Courthouse.
Cancer control program – Free pap smears and mammogram vouchers are available to eligible women 50 years and older at the medical clinic in East Carbon. Women 40-49 may also qualify for free mammograms. For information on income guidelines, contact the clinic weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cancer screening – Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Women 50 to 64 may qualify for free mammogram vouchers. Call the health department at 637-3671 to schedule appointments.
Infant immunization clinics – The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There is a nominal fee, but immunizations will be provided free to anyone who cannot afford to pay.
ABC Learning Center – has books, computers and activities for adults and children. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For tutoring appointments, call the center at 888-2061.
Social Security – The Price contact station is located at the county courthouse. Representatives are at the office the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., with a half-hour lunch break. For information, Carbon residents may call Social Security toll-free at 1-800-772-1213.
Alzheimer’s support group – meets the fourth Wednesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. at in room 140 at 375 S. Carbon Avenue, Price. For information, contact Lisa Perla at 637-4950.
Eating disorder support group – meets the first Thursday of the month at the Price hospital. For information, contact Sunni Olson at 636-8344.

Gallery East – An exhibition of Susan Harris’ ceramic artwork will be on display through March 8. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information, contact CEU’s Gallery East at 613-5225.
Yearbook archives – College of Eastern Utah Library is looking for copies of CEU and Carbon High yearbooks its archives. The missing years include 1928, 1933, 1939, 1955, 1959, 1961 and 1966. The WWII years are also missing, but the library is not positive if any were produced during the war. Contact the CEU library at 613-5209. American Cancer Society daffodil fundraiser – Flowers will be delivered March 11. Contact Joyce Pierce at 637-2883.
Rio Theatre auction – The fundraising event is slated March 9 at Helper Civic Auditorium. Organizers are accepting donations, including antiques, collectables, furniture, glassware, toys, etc. All proceeds go to the fund for completion of the theatre. ‘Century of Dreams’ – The Castle Valley Community Theatre production will be presented March 7 to March 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Price Civic Auditorium
Cultural Olympiad event – Entitled “This Contest is for Real Hands: Rodeo Photographs of the 1930s,” the traveling Otho Hartly exhibit will be on display at the CEU museum gallery through March 4.
