Utah State University Eastern Women’s soccer suffered heartbreaking back to back losses at home Friday and Saturday.
In the first match the Eagles jumped out to an early lead. Morgan Hall scored after a Badgers defender lost control of the ball in the 4 minute. Snow came close on several occasions but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net as the Eagles held onto a 1-0 advantage at the break.
Early in the second half the Badgers equalized. Chloe Martin got behind the Eagles defense to make it 1-1. The Badgers continued to attack, Mya Massey doing well to save a fierce shot. Another Badgers effort hit the post after a goalmouth scramble. The Eagles took the lead on the counterattack, Allie Stephens raced down the right wing and crossed for McKenna Wiscombe to head in her cross at the far post.
With 8 minutes left Snow equalized, Mei Svetsugu lashed a shot into the back of the net from the edge of the penalty area. Heartbreak followed in the final minute of the match as Haillie Rhees snuck in at the back post to score the winner. The final score was USUE 2, Snow College 3.
The rivals kicked off again Saturday. It was a tight first half with lots of fouls and few chances. The Eagles were unable to create many chances in a bad tempered game. Snow College won again 1-0.
The Lady Eagles are 5-4-1 overall, 1-4-1 in conference play.
