Fitness World is closing on Aug. 31, after serving the local community for more than 14 years.
Owners Jerri and Randy Timothy are moving back to Wyoming to be closer to their family.
Initially moving to Price as part buyers of radio station KUSA in 2003, they started Fitness World the following year.
“It’s time to downsize, I’ve worked from 6 a.m. to seven or eight at night, four days a week since 1980,” said Jerri.
Starting as an aerobics instructor with Jazzworks in Powell, Wyo., Jerri has about 30 fitness certifications and a thousand memories. She has worked out with many fitness celebrities, including Richard Simmons [twice], Debbie Allen and Jane Fonda.
Scenes from the movie “Remember I Will Always Love You,” were filmed at Fitness World in 2009.
Starring Dean Norris and Eric Roberts, Jerri played herself, monitoring the front desk. The couple had their own radio show, “Greybow And Carter In The Morning,” airing from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. locally.
Jerri was extremely active in the community, teaching fitness classes at the college and the Senior Citizens Center as well as numerous individual clients.
At various times she was secretary of the Chamber Of Commerce, secretary of Downtown Alive and chairperson of Relay For Life, not to mention the numerous fundraisers in which Fitness World participated.
In November 2016 a devastating fire badly damaged the weight room, forcing a move to a smaller building across the street.
“We lost a lot of equipment,” said Jerri. The aerobics room was left unscathed.
After the fire, “I was thankful to the BDAC and the Wellness Center for accommodating a lot of my customers,” she said. Indeed those two facilities were the only places to work out in Price until Fitness World reopened. Now there are a more fitness facilities in town.
“I’ve been very blessed, most wonderful fitness people, we’ve expanded three times, lots of additions,” said Jerri. “We’re taking all of our equipment.”
She plans on doing fitness training on a part-time basis when back in Wyoming where she started. Born in Montana, Jerri was the Wyoming/Montana supervisor for Jazzworks International, where she trained fitness instructors.
Husband Randy “is an Idaho boy,” she said. Jerri would like to thank all of her friends and customers in Carbon County. “I love them dearly and they will be missed,” she concluded.
