The Richfield Wildcats traveled to Castle Dale on Friday night to face the Emery Spartans in the first game of the season for both teams.
Emery started the game with a long pass to Jax Madison setting up a field goal from Brock Winter for Emery to make it 3-0 to start the game.
The Wildcats respond with a one-yard touchdown pass from Emmitt Hafen to Brittyn Riddle. That was one of Hafen’s three touchdown passes on the night.
Hafen also scored a touchdown using his legs running one in from five yards out to make 13-3 Richfield at the time.
It was all Wildcats after the opening Spartans drive, scoring a total of 42 points unanswered. Drayton Robinson and Parker Rappleye also caught touchdown passes from Hafen. The one to Rappleye being a 38 yard touchdown pass and catch to make 34-3 Wildcats.
The Wildcats also added two more rushing touchdown from Jordan Anderson and Ian Bate.
The Spartans lone touchdown of the game was a 12-yard run from Szion Gibson.
Final score: Richfield 42, Emery 9.
The Emery Spartans will look to bounce back this Friday night when they travel to Moab to take on the Grand County Red Devils.
