Carbon High School graduate Cali Fossat has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Western Nebraska.
The 2018 graduate is excited to head to Scottsbluff this week and continue her playing career at the NJCAA powerhouse.
“I went on a visit out there and loved it. There program is really good and their school really wants you to be as student before your an athlete,” said Fossat.
Fossat also said that her new coach also has connections with four-year schools and a track record of sending her players to the next level.
As a senior in 2018 Fossat helped the Dinos reach the 3A State Semifinals, where they lost to Manti in the final inning.
She was part of a Carbon team that finished the season with a 7-3 region record and 21-7 overall record.
Fossat was named first team All-State by the Deseret News after hitting .515 at the plate with 30 RBIs, 35 hits and 12 home runs in 2018.
At Western Nebraska, Fossat will make the transition from third base to catcher.
She will have to wait to make that change however, due to arm surgery she had done over a year ago, the move to behind home plate will take time because of her coaches wanting to build her arm strength up.
Although she won’t be in the field right away, she will be counted on to contribute at the plate as a hitter immediately.
“That my game plan, to become the catcher but the coach told me that I will have a spot in the line up because she really likes my bat,” said Fossat.
Cali isn’t the only college athlete in her household, her older brother Cole is a shortstop at Dixie State and her younger brother Jordan will be a freshman baseball player at Carbon.
She is planning on getting her general education credits done at Western Nebraska. She would like to major in Religious Studies and become a youth pastor for a career after softball.
