Wellington appointed a new police chief at a special city council meeting Monday.
The winning candidate is longtime town resident Rory Bradley, who is also a Carbon County deputy sheriff.
He has lived in Wellington for 34 of his 36 years.
Bradley has nearly 16 years of law enforcement experience, beginning with Emery County in January 2006.
Bradley starts his new job on Aug. 27, after being sworn in at next Wednesday’s city council meeting.
Rory cited his deep roots in Wellington as a major asset in his pursuit of the position.
“My grandma lived to be 96; lived here her whole life. I’ve built two houses here,” he said of his strong ties to the community.
His vision for the police department is “public fidelity, everyone knows me, I have two kids in elementary school. Don’t be afraid, come talk to me. I have five reserve officers, four of them are really experienced, Kelly Maynes is a wellspring of knowledge,” he said.
Rory and his wife Sarah organized Wellington Pioneer Days. They have four children, ages 7 to 14.
He said prescription pills and heroin use are the main crime problems in Wellington.
Bradley replaces Chad Feichko, who served in Wellington for several years.
Feichko’s peace officer license was suspended for a year by the Utah Department of Public Safety’s Peace Officer Standards and Training Council in June.
“I like Chad as a person and wish him well,” Bradley commented when asked about the circumstances surrounding the position’s vacancy.
Bradley credits his wife Sarah for most of his success, “because of her I am what I am. She’s the love of my life. I look forward to serving the people of Wellington and Mayor (Joan) Powell,” he said.
