The first annual Pinnacle Peak Invitational was held over the weekend at the Carbon County Soccer Complex.
Tournament official and Carbon High soccer coach Chad Cowdell called the competition, “smaller than expected but very successful.”
The games kicked off Thursday with Voltage FC girls playing their Octane FC counterparts at the girls under 11 and under 14 levels.
Other matches featured Carbon and Emery High boys and girls teams in various friendlies.
The competitive part of the tournament featured four boys U13 teams, hosts Voltage FC, Spartans FC from Emery County, Wasatch FC from Kaysville and Octane FC, representing Vernal.
Each team was allowed three guest players and each team fielded several girls.
Spartans FC were deemed ineligible for the final, mistakenly using overage players. So the penultimate match saw hosts Voltage FC playing Octane FC.
Jair Perry put the Vernal side up 1-0 in the first half. An early second half strike from Colen Thomas put the visitors up 2-0.
In an exciting finish, Voltage FC pulled one back through Luke Brady who also hit the crossbar in the dying minutes.
Married Voltage FC coaches Amber and Paul Smith were pleased with their team’s effort despite the 2-1 loss.
“If you guys play like this in every game you’ll do great,” said Amber.
Chad Cowdell officiated the final ceremony.
He warmly thanked the tournament volunteers, referees and sponsors.
“For those of us who love soccer in Price this is great,” he said.
He presented medals to both sets of players and the trophy to Octane FC head coach Edgar Morales. “This is exciting this is history,” he concluded.
