Helper Legion A team am opened their 2018 season with a doubleheader on Saturday against Kanab in Helper.
The A team which consists of players that will graduate in 2020 and 2021, split the doubleheader by losing game one  and winning game two
Helper opened the game taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning with RBI’s by Carter Sorenson and Kaleb Nelson.
Kanab would come up big defensively against Helper, they would only allow one more run the rest of the game.
Helper would go three innings without having a runner on base as well.
“Our bats just did not come alive and I know we are better hitters than that,” said Helper coach Ken Sorenson.
The game was in reach for Helper until the seventh inning when Kanab would score four runs to put the game away.
After the game, Sorenson said base running errors were a problem in game one against Kanab.
“We had a lot of base running errors in the first game, they had five base running errors in that game and two of them were from second base. They have to get rid of those type of errors,” said Sorenson.
Game two of the day was more of the same for Helper.
Kanab got off to a great start with multiple hits and walks off of Nelson who was the starting pitcher for Helper.
Nelson would only pitch two outs and be replaced by Sorenson after giving up eight runs.
In the bottom of the first inning Helper would chip at the lead with a run after Nick Olson stole home plate.
Helper would slow down the Kanab offense and get things under control and only allow three more runs the rest of the game.
With a man on in the bottom of the fifth, Cade Dimick and Derick Robison would hit back to back doubles to cut into the Kanab lead.
Robison would score on the next play from third because of a illegal move on the move by the Kanab pitcher to make the score 11-5.
Kanab would hold on in the final two innings and get the double header sweep of Helper.
Up next for the Helper A team will be against Pleasant Grove on Wednesday night at 7 p.m at the Helper Legion Field.
The Helper 19U team will play at Price Legion in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
