Carbon softball lost to the Union Cougars 7-4 in the 3A State Playoffs Friday in Spanish Fork.
Thursday’s quarterfinal against Uninon didn’t start well for Carbon, giving up three walks and three runs to fall behind early in the top of the first.
Kaytlyn Cripps started the game in the circle and pitched two innings before being replaced by freshman pitcher Brooke Moosman in the third inning.
Moosman and the Carbon defense would go on to not allow a run in the next two innings to stop the scoring by Union.
In the bottom of the fourth the Dinos got two runs on the board from a Moosman two-out single.
Carbon would add one more run in the fourth inning with a Kelsey Sorenson RBI single up the middle.
Union would have a big sixth inning with adding three runs offf errors and mistakes by the Dinos.
The Dinos struggled in the later innings with getting anything going against the Cougars’ pitcher Ally Rook who struck out seven Dinos on Friday.
Dekota Kraushaar would add a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the lead by a run but the Cougars would close out the Dinos and get the win.
Carbon will now play in the loser’s bracket to get to tomorrow’s State Championship game.
They will have to beat Grand County this evening and then win tomorrow morning’s game against the winner of North Sanpete and Manti at 10 a.m.
A loss on Friday to Grand County will eliminate Carbon.
The Dinos previously beat Grand twice already this season, 15-4 and 8-7.
