Alice Medina Miera, 72, died on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at her home after a long struggle with health issues. She was born September 26, 1945 to Vincent and Lillian Medina in Price, UT. Alice was the ninth of eleven children. Despite having such a large family (on a coal miners income) Alice, along with most of her siblings, attended private Catholic School at Notre Dame in Price. She graduated in 1964.
On April 27, 1968, Alice married Orlando “Poncho” Miera, who provided and cared for her like no other. After Carbon County, they moved to Granger and raised two children. LaDawn and Robin enjoyed a stable and secure upbringing from their father and a safe and comfortable home from their mother. Alice fostered a home environment where all were welcome at any time. Many extended family often stayed and visited and Alice loved it! She had wished when all of her siblings were older and retired that they could all live in one big house like The Walton’s. Alice was always known by her children’s teachers and classmates because she was a regular home room mom and worked in retail for several years at Valley Fair Mall, where she thrived at a trendy retail hot spot.
She is survived by children LaDawn Miera and Robin (Leta) Miera; grandchildren Darian Featherhat, Damian Miera, Sabrina Miera, Lavinia Adams, Tauataina Adams, Melipa Adams and Hukilau Adams; sisters Cecilia (Victor) Mansanarez, Henrietta Slaton, Pat Schmidt, Evelynn Montoya and Margie Valdez; several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband Orlando; brothers Ray, Manuel, John, Richard and sister Louise Roybal; nephews David Schmidt and Mandel Medina; niece LaRae Pettit; several in-laws.
Although Alice enjoyed being around her family, in particular her grandkids, life for Alice was never the same after losing Orlando. Mom, you will never be alone and you will never be in pain. We know you are enjoying the laughter and comfort of all those that went before you.
Special thanks to her caretakers at A+ Hospice and for all of those that prayed for her daily.
Services will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 3560 West 3650 South (Lancer Way), West Valley City, UT.
