The Carbon girl’s golf team won the Region 14 title at the conclusion of their conference tournament on Tuesday in Roosevelt.
“It’s awesome, its nice to fulfill something you sought out to do. There were times during the season when you don’t think it will come to fruition but it is one of those things you don’t give up on,” said Carbon Head Coach Kenji Otani.
Going into the Region 14 Tournament the Dinos had a big lead in the standings which helped them overcome a poor performance in the tournament.
“We lost battle but won the war. Going into yesterday’s tournament we had a 26 shot lead and your goal is always to win the tournament but we didn’t play that good and placed fourth,” said Otani.
Otani said that it was the “never quit” type of attitude that was the key to overcoming an up and down season and tournament.
“Wasn’t happy with the way the girl’s played yesterday but so proud that they didn’t give up. To me that was huge and I am so happy for them and they deserve it,” said Otani.
Carbon had four players finish in the top 12 of Wednesday’s tournament.
Sam King finished sixth, Aubrey Faussett finished eighth, Jordan Bianco finished ninth and Jessica Hansen came in twelfth place.
The Dinos won the Region 14 title, their first in four years, by three shots and will head to the 3A State Tournament in a couple weeks in Richfield.
The 3A State Tournament begins on May 8 and after day one, the top ten teams will continue to play on May 9 for the state title.
