Carbon softball defeated the North Sevier Wolves 12-2 on Thursday at the Carbon County Fairgrounds.
The Dinos fought off the windy and cold weather to get the non-region win on Thursday to keep their four-game win streak alive.
“We came out ready to play and even though it was cold, we knew if we played our hardest we could beat them,” said Carbon infielder Kelsey Sorenson.
With the wind being a challenge and taking some time to get used to, it took a couple innings to get the Carbon offense really going.
Senior third baseman Cali Fossat hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third to get the offense finally rolling it has been. Carbon has averaged almost 21 runs per game the last three games.
Fossat’s performance at the plate has been huge for the Dinos this year according to Carbon Head Coach Wade Williams, especially coming back from an injury.
“It has helped take us to the next level. We were trying to not play her because of the injury but as she recovered now she has been in the line-up and her bat has been on fire,” said Williams.
The next inning the Dinos put five more runs on the board and take a 11-2 lead into the last inning.
A Sorenson bunt would score the game winning run in the bottom of the fifth to seal the win due to the 10-run rule.
Leading the Dinos at the plate was freshman catcher Lyndsey Madrigal who had three hits, three RBIs and two runs.
“She is doing awesome, I know she is a really good player and she is coming out and proving it,” said Sorenson.
Junior pitcher Dekota Krashaaur had an impressive performance in the circle and at the plate for Carbon.
She pitched all five innings for the Dinos and allowed four hits, two runs with six strikeouts. At the plate Krashaaur had three hits and one RBI.
“She always brings it and always comes ready to play. She doesn’t like to pitch but she does a great job when she does,” said Coach Williams.
Next week the Dinos will have three games in three days against a non-region opponent in Grand County, region foe ALA and rival Emery.
With the Dinos tied for first in the Region 14 standings, Sorenson said that the games next will help them stay ready for their region games in the second half of the season.
“We have to come out and get the experience from those games to get better so we can prepare for those region games that do count,” said Sorenson.
Tuesday’s matchup against Grand County will begin at 3:30 at the Carbon County Fairgrounds.
Carbon defeated Grand County 15-4 last month in Moab.
