HELLO MOTO
Nearly 450 racers swarmed over the Carbon County Fairgrounds motocross course and beyond during the Drunkards Wash Grand Prix Saturday. Promoter Ken Kirkwood remarked, “For a one-day event, that’s huge! It’s the biggest event I’ve ever had. I couldn’t be happier.” He said racers came from Utah, Colorado, Nevada and Wyoming.
The Drunkards Wash Grand Prix was one of 12-15 Utah Sportsman Racing Association (USRA) Point Events scheduled for 2018 around the region through October.
Kirkwood is founder and owner of Finishline Promotions, the sponsor of the event. He credited the Carbon County Fairgrounds staff for preparing and maintaining the motocross track.
Participants ranged in age from 4 to 64, and competed in 30 classes, such as big bikes, minis, ATV/UTV, and others. The younger racers stuck to the motocross track, while some advanced riders took on a 12-mile timed course that looped around the open country to the west, through Drunkards Wash and back to the fairgrounds.
Kirkwood said there was a $1,500 pro purse for the top five places. The overall Big Bikes winner was 17-year old Tyler Lynn of Mona, Utah who finished five laps of the 12-mile loop in 1:45:55, and took home $500.
Rounding out the top five were Josh Knight, Cooper Ashton, Nick Tolman, and Daemon Woolslayer.
The next USRA Point Event will be hosted by the Firebirds Motorcycle Club of Eureka. It is scheduled for Saturday, April 14 at nearby Jerico, Utah.
