Carbon softball defeated the Providence Hall Patriots 11-0 in five innings on Thursday at the Carbon County Fairgrounds.
Tuesday’s win was the first home win of the season and second in conference. Carbon Head Coach Wade Williams said after the game he was happy with the results.
“Any win is a good win, eleven to nothing, we started out a little flat but we adjusted,” said Williams.
Junior Kaytlyn Cripps started the game pitching for the Dinos and her shutout against the Patriots was key to getting the win.
“She really brought her game A game today, she pitched really well,” said Williams.
Cripps pitched in four innings with four strikeouts before she was replaced by Brooke Moosman and moved to catcher in the top of the fifth.
Cripps also had an impressive game from the plate as a batter for Carbon. She had four hits and five RBIs including a two-run home run in the bottom of the second to put the Dinos up 6-0.
The Dinos 10-run ruled the Patriots in the bottom of the fifth inning when a hit by Cripps brought home Makenna Pendergrass and Kelsey Sorenson.
Dekota Krauhaar was second on the team in RBIs against Providence Hall with two.
After the game, Cripps said that her team’s defense really stepped up as well for the Dinos.
“We hit the ball good and we played really good defense, we haven’t this good of defense this season,” Cripps said. “There was a lot of movement on the field I noticed like backing up plays and thought we did well with that.”
The Dinos will hit the road for the next two weeks playing non-region games before returning to Price for their next home game on April 3 against Delta.
Overall the Carbon softball team has a 6-2 record and a 2-0 record in the Region 14 standings.
They will play against region foe Union on Tuesday afternoon in Roosevelt.
Last season the Dinos defeated Union 12-9 at home in a non-region game.
