One person was injured and required extrication after a two-vehicle accident at 8:45 a.m. Monday near the Sleepy Hollow furniture store on Highway 10 south of Price.
Lt. Steve Salas of the Utah Highway Patrol said the accident happened when a southbound pickup truck crashed into the trailer of a semi which was stopped and waiting to turn left from the highway. The driver of the pickup truck was pinned inside the vehicle for about 45 minutes. He was transported to the hospital with possible broken bones in his legs and hip. Both front and side airbags in the pickup truck deployed and may have prevented more extensive injuries.
Lt. Salas said the pickup driver reported he didn’t realize the big rig was stopped until it was too late to avoid a collision. There was no evidence of braking before the crash. The driver of the tractor-trailer rig was not injured. No names have been released.
Traffic was alternated through one lane while emergency responders worked to extricate the driver of the pickup truck, and remove the vehicle and debris from the accident.
