Job’s Daughters to hold state convention in Carbon

    Job’s Daughters will hold their annual state convention in Carbon County this year.
    Kelly Wilkinson, Grand Guardian for the state of Utah, explained to the Price City Council last week that Job’s Daughters is an International organization. Their charge is a leadership organization, committed to fostering leadership skills and self-confidence in girls ages 10-20.
    Bethel 3 Senior Princess Kayla Maynes was also at the meeting. She said the organization has been very good for her. “I couldn’t have been in this position before I was a part of Job’s Daughters,” she said.
    A Bethel is the local chapter of Job’s Daughters International. The Bethel is governed by the girls, with assistance from the adults who on the Guardian Council. All meetings are entirely run by the Daughters, led by the Honored Queen.
    The convention will be held June 21-24, involving all eight Bethels in Utah. Wilkinson said there are 120 members in Utah and they expect 180 to 220 people to attend the convention, including parents and guardians.
    Wilkinson said all of the girls are expected to raise their own money to attend the convention. Even local girls will stay in the host motel (Ramada Inn) to foster camaraderie amongst girls.
    Kara Maynes, Bethel Guardian and mother to Kayla, said belonging to Job’s Daughters has been very good for Kayla. She explained that when Kayla joined the group the family lived in East Carbon. They knew Kayla would be attending school in Price and wanted her to have friends before that time.
    It worked, said Kara, “Kayla couldn’t have even stood here before she joined Job’s Daughters.”
