Ice Fishing

By Report provided by the Utah Department of Wildlife Resources

Abajo Mountains: Many waters on the Abajo Mountains are currently inaccessible with highway vehicles. (01-30-18)
Academy Mill Reservoir: Academy Mill Reservoir and others above Joes Valley may be inaccessible because of snow and mud. (01-30-18)
Boulger Reservoir: Boulger Reservoir has stable ice, though access to the reservoir may be limited because of snow, ice and mud. Try using tube jigs tipped with mealworms for catching trout. (01-30-18)
Carbon County Community Fishing Pond: This waterbody is closed for the winter. (01-30-18)
Cleveland Reservoir: Cleveland Reservoir has stable ice. Try using tube jigs tipped with mealworms for catching trout. (01-30-18)
Duck Fork Reservoir: Access to Duck Fork Reservoir and others on the South Manti may be limited because of snow, ice and mud. (01-30-18)
Electric Lake: Fishing is slow to fair at Electric Lake. Anglers are catching tiger trout through the ice near the boat ramp and off other points. The fishing has been best before noon using tube jigs. (01-30-18)
Fairview Lakes: Fairview Lakes may be inaccessible with highway vehicles because of recent snow. (01-30-18)
Ferron Reservoir: Ferron Reservoir and others on the South Manti may be inaccessible with highway vehicles. (01-30-18)
Gigliotti Pond: Gigliotti Pond and other waters in the Price valley have unstable ice because of variable temperatures. (01-30-18)
Gooseberry Reservoir: Gooseberry Reservoir may be inaccessible because of snow and mud. (01-30-18)
Grassy Lake: Grassy Lake and other waters on the South Manti are currently inaccessible to highway vehicles because of ice on the road. (01-30-18)
Huntington North Reservoir: Huntington North Reservoir has unstable ice and areas of open water. However, about 350 rainbow trout averaging 4.5 pounds each were stocked on Jan. 23. These fish may be catchable if you can safely reach areas with open water. (01-30-18)
Huntington Reservoir: Anglers have had success catching tiger trout at Huntington Reservoir using a paddle bug, tube jig or plain jig head tipped with worms. Red shiners have been less effective lately. (01-30-18)
Joes Valley Reservoir: Anglers have found some areas with stable ice just south of the east boat ramp at Joes Valley Reservoir. Try using spoons or jigs tipped with chub meat for catching trout here. A new catch-and-release record for splake was made official on Jan. 24; the splake was 30.5 inches long and was caught at Joes Valley in November. (01-30-18)
Knight-Ideal Community Fishing Pond: Access to the Knight-Ideal Community Fishing Pond is closed until March 1. (01-30-18)
La Sal Mountains: Many waters on the La Sal Mountains are either inaccessible to highway vehicles or covered with unstable ice. (01-30-18)
Lower Fish Creek: Access may be limited to Lower Fish Creek as snow and ice accumulate, but it may be accessible below Scofield dam with four-wheel drive. Try using panther martin spinners or green soft hackle flies for catching trout and chubs. (01-30-18)
Miller Flat Reservoir: Miller Flat Reservoir may be accessible in a four-wheel drive vehicle. Try using tube jigs tipped with mealworms for catching trout. (01-30-18)
Millsite Reservoir & State Park: Some of the ice at Millsite Reservoir has melted off, and it is now too unstable for fishing. (01-30-18)
Petes Hole: Petes Hole and other waters above Joes Valley may be inaccessible because of snow, ice and mud. (01-30-18)
Potters Ponds: Potters Ponds may be inaccessible with highway vehicles because of snow, ice and mud. (01-30-18)
Price River: Much of the Price River through Price Canyon has frozen over, making fishing impossible in many areas. (01-30-18)
Right Fork of Huntington Creek: Many parts of Huntington Creek are frozen over, so fishing may be difficult, depending on where you go. (01-30-18)
Scofield Reservoir: Anglers have been ice fishing near the dam cove, near Madison Bay and near the island on the west side of the reservoir. They’ve had success catching rainbow and cutthroat trout using white/chartreuse jigs tipped with chub meat or wax worms. Paddle bugs, clear/speckled tube jigs and green glow ice flies tipped with a wax worm have also worked well. Try fishing between 16 and 22 feet of water, close to the bottom. (01-30-18)
Soup Bowl: Soup Bowl and other waters on the South Manti may be inaccessible with highway vehicles. (01-30-18)
Willow Lake: Willow Lake and other waters on the South Manti may be inaccessible with highway vehicles. (01-30-18)
Wrigley Springs Reservoir: Wrigley Springs Reservoir was accessible with four-wheel drive on Jan. 8, with stable ice on the south end of the reservoir. Access may change, however, due to snow and ice on the road in Ferron Canyon. (01-30-18)
