Six people were transported to the Castleview Hospital with injuries sustained in a one-vehicle rollover Wednesday evening. The accident happened just after 8 p.m. about one mile south of the Carbon-Emery County line on SR-6.
Sgt. Chris Parkins of the Utah Highway Patrol reported the Cadillac Escalade was westbound when it left the right side of the road near milepost 263 and impacted a large rock, which caused it to roll. The vehicle came to rest on its top about 100 feet from the highway. He said there was a language barrier but it was learned through an interpreter the driver had a coughing fit and lost control of the vehicle.
Three adults in the vehicle suffered significant head, back or neck injuries. Sgt. Parkins said some passengers were using safety restraints and some were not. An infant in the vehicle was secured in a car safety seat and was uninjured.
Because of the number of patients, four ambulances responded and a medical helicopter was put on standby, but not called to the scene. There was some interruption to traffic due to emergency vehicle congestion.
