The Carbon High School boys’ basketball team fell short of victory during its Jan. 9 road contest against Union High School.
Despite keeping the game competitive, Carbon lost by 13, scoring just 43 points to Union’s 56.
Most of the Dinos’ turbulence came from only scoring 4 points in the second quarter. The second period is usually Carbon’s most challenging. The team has averaged only 9.4 points throughout the second quarter this season.
Carbon outshined Union at the 3-point line, scoring 21 to the Cougar’s 0. Carbon struggled to get to the free throw line and only attempted four free throws.
Even though the team had a rough time scoring, stand-out forwards Derek Hilliam and Ryan Gagon recorded good performances, with Hilliam scoring a double-double, 19 points and 11 rebounds. Gagon nearly earned a double-double, scoring 18 and collecting 9 boards.
Overall the Dinos played well, but were unable to make shots fall, recording only a 30-percent overall shooting percentage.
Carbon plays American Leadership Academy Jan. 17 and Delta at home Jan. 19.
