Sally Mauro singers led the procession on Main Street to the Senior Citizens Park to begin the traditional event. On the park stage, Mayor Ed Chavez, Mark Montoya and Brenda Deeter greeted the audience, thanked those who made the celebration possible and read a proclamation from Gov. Gary Herbert naming Helper “Utah’s Christmas Town.”
A flip of the switch turned on thousands of lights to brighten store fronts and trees along the street.
Next up is a memorial luminary service at the city cemetery Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and the Light Parade on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. There will be a chili dinner from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. both nights in Civic Auditorium.
