It is quite the process to feed 1000 head of sheep.
For John Hanna, he has now been feeding and watering 1000 head of sheep for the past two months as he puts more weight on the animals getting them ready to sell in December.
He purchases most of his hay, which has been going for about $100 a ton this year. He uses about 100 bales of hay a day.
The hay is fed into a chopper that fills a tank that is mounted on his tractor. This tank has a delivery belt system that is activated as he pulls along side the mangers to deliver the hay.
“It’s always a guessing game knowing when to sell or when to keep on feeding as we try to guess the selling price,” said Hanna. For right now he is going to wait until December to get them to market.
