A suspected drunk driver left a trail of damage, including a power outage in west Price, as his pickup truck slammed its way from collision to collision along Price River Drive Thursday morning.
According to information provided by the Price City Police Department, the collisions occurred at about 11:30 a.m. when the truck driven eastbound at high speed by 36-year old Kurt Killian of Elko, Nevada, crossed into the oncoming lane, jumped the curb onto the sidewalk in front of Chrysalis and crashed into two ground-level transformer boxes. The vehicle then struck an eight-inch thick cement wall, causing it to spin around, taking out a tree and fire hydrant, and damaging two nearby vehicles with flying debris.
Driver extricated
The mangled truck came to rest on the driver side. Killian was extricated by Price City Fire Department rescuers and taken to Castleview Hospital with neck pain, in addition to other minor injuries. Officers on scene detected the odor of alcohol on Killian and after obtaining a warrant, initiated a blood draw at the hospital.
Killian was placed under arrest for DUI and after being cleared from the ER, he was booked into the Carbon County Jail. Other, unspecified charges are being considered by the city attorney.
Police said incident reconstruction indicates the vehicle was traveling at 65 miles per hour before impact.
The incident prompted a response from the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Highway Patrol, Price City personnel, Rocky Mountain Power, Emery Telcom and other entities.
