15 miles of work from Wellington to Emery border

Road construction season is here. Locally, the Utah Department of Transporation has begun a $4.3 million project to improve a 15 mile section of US-6 from Wellington’s western city limits to the Emery County line at mile marker 262.
UDOT District 4 Communications Manager Kevin Kitchen reports the project in Wellington will replace approximately two inches of asphalt in the areas with curb and gutter, and about an inch-and-a-half in areas without curb and gutter.
Manhole and valve covers will be altered where necessary to match the new road profile, and shoulders will be graded in areas where the drop from pavement is greater than two inches.
Pedestrian access ramps will be upgraded at intersections to meet current standards where needed including corners at 100 West, Center Street, 100 East, 200 East, 600 East, 700 East, 800 East, and 950 East.
There will be lane closures, work zone signs and flaggers during construction, which will take about three months. Delays should be less than 15 minutes. The contractor is Nielson Construction.
Wellington Mayor Joan Powell encourages travelers to keep a sharp lookout, especially in the usual busy areas such Miller Travel Center on East Main. “A lot of trucks and other vehicles are coming in and out of the truck stop and the nearby Nine Mile Canyon Road, so drivers need to slow down and stay alert.”
The Carbon County Road Department has a number of construction projects lined up for the summer. A project to install guardrails on Ridge Road is underway now, and the road, which links Highway 10 south of Price to SR-6 in East Wellington, will also be chip sealed this summer. A full list of county roads to be chip sealed this construction season can be found on the website, carbon.utah.gov.
