A sudden, intense rain and hail storm Thursday resulted in localized street flooding, power bumps that left many traffic signals flashing, and several traffic accidents in a three mile section of the SR-6 bypass highway. Emergency responders were first dispatched to a rollover accident at milepost 238 just after noon, and while en route, received a call of another slide-off near the West Price interchange. A short time later there was yet another dispatch for a two car collision at exit 241.
Sgt. Warren Nelson of the Utah Highway Patrol said the first accident happened when a passenger car slid off the slushy pavement into the median, followed immediately by an SUV which collided the car and then rolled. He said there were no serious injuries in any of the incidents and nobody was taken to the hospital.
Officers from the Price City PD and Carbon County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Highway Patrol and, Sgt. Nelson noted, UDOT crews were quick to respond and address the unexpected hazardous road conditions. He said the crews do a good job and have had a busy winter clearing snow. More recently they have been called out on numerous occasions to clear roadways of rock slides.
Sgt. Nelson also appealed to drivers to be more aware of emergency responders and to slow down and proceed cautiously through the scene of an accident.
