Released convict can’t stay away from his habit, captured

By Sun Advocate

Police have arrested a knife-wielding felon who was released from the Utah State Prison last week. According to a news release from the Price Police Department, authorities were called just after 3:00 a.m. Monday and notified of an out-of-control male at a residence in northeast Price. The caller, who was hiding in a closet, believed the man was exhibiting signs of a drug-induced psychosis.
Officers Nick Parker of Price and Drew Olson of Wellington responded to the scene and found 33-year-old Jimmy Jack Olson of Price (no relation to the officer).
The suspect was holding what appeared to be a knife, but turned out to be kitchen shears. He allegedly made threatening moves toward the officers, prompting Officer Parker to deploy his Taser. After a physical struggle, Olson was disarmed and taken into custody. He was found to be in possession of about a gram of methamphetamine.

Multiple charges

Olson was booked into jail on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine and prohibited items inside a correctional facility, and misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and failure to obey the commands of a police officer.
Olson had an active statewide warrant out of Utah County, and there was also a detention order from the Idaho State Prison. But Idaho officials declined to transport so Utah Department of Corrections officials released him, apparently unaware of the active warrant.
Olson has a record of 21 arrests around the state on charges that include theft, assault, burglary, robbery, and domestic violence.
