Juanita Richard named Utah Animal Control Volunteer of the Year

By John Serfustini

Juanita Richard, who has led the Carbon County Humane Society efforts for years, has been recognized as the Utah Animal Control Officers Volunteer of the Year for 2016.
“It came as a total surprise,” she said. “They told me to come to St. George so I could present an award to someone else, but they didn’t tell me who that someone was or what the award was.”
In her capacity with the Humane Society, she has overseen activities to protect animals and help pet owners to act responsibly. Some of those efforts have included low-cost spay and neuter clinics and vaccinations.
The organization has also helped with the “trap, neuter and release” program for feral cats, she said.
The society has also worked with county animal control to place unwanted cats with local farmers, who want the felines for mouse control.
“We could not accomplish these tings without the support of County Animal Control,” she said.
