RV park planned for Helper

By John Serfustini

Developer will seek annexation

Plans are drawn for a 107-space recreational vehicle park in south Helper, but before any ground work begins, south Helper will have to expand a bit. It is a matter of annexing a tract of private land that lies in the county that abuts the land already in the city.
While the city council voiced no objection to the idea of the park or the annexation, they have referred the matter to City Attorney Angela Sampinos to make sure that all the legal steps involved go by the book.
Developer Tom Lund told the council last Thursday that the annexation would put the entire park within city limits, and therefore within Helper’s utility service area.
The park would have spaces for a range of camping styles, from tents to cabins to back-in sites. It would include laundry, rest room facilities and showers, along with a wash bay for RVs. Recreation could include a swimming pool or splash park. These amenities all involve water, which means the park would consume about 300,000 gallons a month during peak summer months.
City Planning Commission Chairman Tom Paluso said planners have have no problems with the development but that it would require a zoning change to permit commercial use. The property is now an alfalfa field.
Paluso said the current owners are willing to sell and Lund is willing to buy, but the sales won’t go through until annexation until and rezoning are assured.
