Carbon Dinos Football learning more than just the game itself

By Sierra Trujillo

At this point in the season, with only one game remaining in 2015, the Carbon High School football team is focusing less on the actual games and more on the lessons that they are teaching.
While the Dinos’ success on the field has been limited, head coach Josh Huntsman has switched the team’s focus to how they can use these experiences in every day life.
“These boys are becoming men and they’re learning how to become men and that’s a difficult thing as you’re going through life,” said Huntsman. “But, each and every one of them has done the things that they need to do to learn how to be a good parent, a good father, a good older brother, a good younger brother. Whatever they are, these guys are learning how to be men.”
Sitting at 1-8 overall and 0-5 in Region on the season, all Huntsman wants from the boys heading into their last game of the season is hard work, which they have shown all year.
The Dinos’ most recent loss came against Richfield High School last Wednesday, as they were defeated 28-14. Carbon went into halftime trailing by only six points after a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Taylor Rasmussen, but some quick scoring from the Falcons at the beginning of the third period put the Dinos behind 22-8.
Another touchdown by Rasmussen in the third period, this one a 27-yard run, put the Dinos behind by only eight points, but the Falcons scored at the end of the quarter and brought the score to the final 28-14, as neither team scored in the fourth quarter.
“They came out and did the things that we asked them to do,” said Huntsman. “Get a couple of breaks and that’s an entirely different ball game.”
Offensively for the Dinos, senior Dallyn Mower rushed for 66 yards on 16 carries. Rasmussen rushed for 43 yards on six carries, with two touchdowns, and threw the ball for 85 yards on eight completions. Defensively, Mower tallied 13 tackles, nine solo and four assists. Senior Peyton Fausett tallied eight tackles, six solo and two assists.
The Dinos will play their final game of the season at home on Friday against Union High School at 7 p.m. Seniors will also be honored during the game.
