The Carbon boys’ baseball team in the Utah’s Perfect Game League lost against Juab on Monday, June 15. They lost their first game 7-6, and their second game 2-1.
Mitch Olson pitched during the first four innings of the first game, securing a lead of 5-1 at the bottom of the fourth. Olsen began to tire in the fifth, giving up three runs during the inning. Carbon scored another run in the sixth, bringing the score to 6-4 with Carbon still in the lead. Josh Barlow stepped in for Olson as pitcher, only giving up one run, bringing the score to 6-5. Tel Gardner pitched for the seventh inning, giving up one run, bringing extra innings to the game with the score tied at 6-6. Carbon was unable to score in the eighth, while Juab managed to hit a triple with one out. Coach Jeff Cisneros then decided to walk the next two batters, in order to get the force out at home. Unfortunately, Gardner walked the next batter, giving Juab the win with a final score of 6-7.
Carbon outhit Juab 8-4, with Kameron Gunter, Anthony Maclean and Taylon Abeyta all hitting a single and double, while Mitch Olson had a two RBI single and Chase Morgan with a triple. Gardner was charged with the loss on the mound.
The second game saw Chase Morgan start on the mound and pitched four good innings, with the score tied at 1-1 after the fourth. Nate Olson then stepped in, giving up only one run in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game with a final score of 2-1. Carbon managed to outhit Juab once again, with six hits by Carbon and only two from Juab. Kameron Gunter and Mitch Olson both had two hits.
“The first game was a tough loss, but at least the guys are getting the chance to work on a lot of things.” said Coach Cisneros. “Despite the wins and losses, so far I think the guys are getting some good work in. A lot of these guys are seeing and getting time in positions they normally don’t play.”
Carbon will play against Mountain View on Wednesday at 5 and 7 pm and against Salem Hills on Thursday at 5 and 7 pm at the Gardner Field in Helper.
