The Methodist Church donated their profits from their Lenten Lunch to Active Re-entry to use for a program that has helper over 500 people with daily transport to Utah Valley Hospital for cancer treatments.
Carbon and Emery counties, along with the Susan G. Komen foundation, have been helping women with breast cancer funding for 18 years. The foundation provides 80 percent of the funding, with the other 20 percent coming from local funds.
The Lenten Lunches started years ago, with the Methodist Church originally having soup and dessert on Ash Wednesday. The lunches began to get bigger and bigger, and as a result changed to non-denominational and to every Wednesday from 12-1. The Methodist, Greek, St. Mathews, Liberty Freedom, and Price Chapel (now Life Ministries) churches all participate in holding the lunch, with the speakers congregation providing the soup and desserts. Their is a free will offering, and that is where the local funding comes from.
The money will be used to support the cancer treatment van and transport. Every year a different charity is selected to benefit from the donations.
