Jan Hoffman

By Sun Advocate

PRICE-Our beautiful wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend, Janet Elaine Chittum Hoffman, age 87, passed away peacefully April 3, 2015, on Good Friday, after having surgery and recuperating at Pinnacle Care Center.
Jan was born Feb. 27, 1928 in Gary, Ind. to Floris and Edna Kuhn Chittum. She had four sisters and one brother.
Married her high school sweetheart, Donald J. Hoffman on Oct. 23, 1948. They followed Jan’s family and moved to Salt Lake City in 1950 and there they were blessed with six children. They lived in S.L.C. for 18 years and in 1968 they moved to Moab (Castle Valley) and opened “Hoffman’s Castle Valley Guest Ranch” and ran it as a family for six years. In 1974 they moved to Price and opened “Hoffman’s Hard Hat Furniture & Appliance”.
Don and Jan were fortunate to have traveled in their motor home and visited all 50 United States, plus a lot of foreign countries too.
Jan always had a smile on her face and welcomed everyone into her home. It was through their strong Catholic faith that helped them face many heartaches and struggles in life. Through all the highs and lows of married life, Mom was a faithful companion for over 66 years to our Dad and supported him in all his adventures in life. Mom always made each of her children feel special. She was a wonderful mother, always thinking and caring for her family. She loved her grandchildren and all their children too. She was light hearted, fun loving and had a wonderful sense of humor. Mom loved rooting for her Utah JAZZ team, and would always call us after they won and say: “How about those JAZZ”!
Jan is survived by her husband, Donald, Price; sons, Dave (Tammy) Hoffman, Price, Tim (Lisa) Hoffman, Wheat Ridge, Colo., Paul (Tami) Hoffman, Price; daughter, Sue (John) Douros, Price; daughter-in-law, Diane Hoffman, Moab; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her sisters and brother; her sons, Ken and Danny Hoffman; granddaughters, Hanna Hoffman and Billy Gentry Brown.
