After one season, Jorgensen to step down as CHS coach

Other opportunities on horizon for former CHS star, CHS Athletic Director Bianco says
After helping to revitalize interest in the Carbon High School Football program over the last year, Head Coach Jan Jorgensen announced his resignation from his position on Monday.
Carbon High Athletic Director Ted Bianco said the school was sad to hear he was leaving but noted he had other opportunities he was going to pursue.
“He (Jan) had some other opportunities arise that he couldn’t pass up and needed to take advantage of what was offered to him,” Bianco said in an email to the Sun Advocate on Tuesday.
Jorgensen did not return a phone call from the Sun Advocate on Wednesday afternoon.
Jorgensen, 30, was a former multi-sport star during his time at Carbon High School from 1999-2003. He was announced as the team’s new head coach in March 2014.
His experience playing at the collegiate level at BYU as a defensive lineman was thought to be a boost for a program that has struggled mightily with multiple coaching changes and losing seasons dating back to their last playoff appearance in 2000.
In his one season at the helm of the Carbon program, Jorgensen’s team started the year 3-0, ending a 17-game losing streak dating back to 2012, before dropping their final seven games with an overall record of 3-7.
Despite his final record, Jorgensen and his staff were credited with helping to generate more interest from players as well as fan support throughout his tenure as coach.
In addition to his work as a head coach in football, Jorgensen also had a budding mixed martial arts career which included winning heavyweight titles and a record of 7-1.
Bianco said that the school has not yet named a replacement for Jorgensen but said it would be something that could be done in the next month or two.
While Jorgensen may be stepping down, his impact on the program won’t be forgotten.
“We are very sad to see him leave and very much appreciate all of the hard work that he, his staff and his players put into the season,” said Bianco.
