CHS X-Country runners finish regular season with strong performance

By Sun Advocate

With the regular season now complete, the Carbon High Cross Country team will now set their sights on having a strong showing at the Region 12 meet in Payson on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
CHS head coach Telisse Allen said the boys and girls teams each had strong performances with a number of runners posting best times and were the only 3A team present at the Westlake XC Classic held on Oct. 4 in Saratoga Springs.
For the boys, Garrett Marsing posted a fourth place finish with a total time of 14:56. Allen said no other CHS runner has broken the 15 minute mark since 1972. Marsing’s time would now be considered a school record, Allen said.
Trey Richardson, Drew Jones, Andrew Gagnon, J.W. Broadbear, Dallin Quinton and Kyle Quinton represented the seven members for the varsity squad. Will Laursen Logan Engar and Dalton Latimer also participated in the varsity race, the first time for them in a very tough field of runners, Allen noted.
For the girls, Giovanna Chiara, Emily Broadbear and Zarah Rossi ran a close race finishing within five seconds of each other, Allen said. Ambrie Reed ran her second race as a member of the girls team, beating her previous time by over four minutes.
Allen said the team will now concentrate on preparing for the Region 12 meet in Payson on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Allen said the meet was moved from Wednesday, Oct. 16 due to High School girls soccer state playoffs.
