John L. McFarland

ROY – John L. McFarland of Roy passed away July 29, 2008 at McKay Dee Hospital from complications of a stroke.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1930 in Kenilworth to Jesse and Elsie McFarland.
John was an avid outdoorsman from day one and especially loved steelhead fishing on the Salmon River in Idaho.
He spent countless weekends with family and friends fishing, hunting and exploring the wilds of New Mexico, Idaho and Utah.
He was a trophy winning archer and had crafted beautiful bows.
He was an accomplished carpenter and spent lots of happy hours tinkering in his shop.
He was a patented inventor, artist and teacher at the College of Eastern Utah.
He had an accomplished career as an engineer and served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ola; daughters, Linda (Joe) Cecil and Lisa (Mark) Bonner; grandchildren, Corey, Brenna, Max and Maddie; sisters, June Stevenson and Mae (Ronnie) Kinyon; brother-in-law, Sonny Maxey; and best friend and partners in fun, Dirk (Amie) Barnes. He was preceded in death by son, Jesse McFarland; daughter; Cathy McFarland; brother; Floyd McFarland; and parents, Jesse and Elsie McFarland.
A celebration of John’s life will be presented at a later date on the Salmon River in Idaho. Cremation will be under the direction of Aaron’s Mortuary of Ogden.
