Deadline for FYI – is Tuesday at noon. Submissions may be sent by regular mail, dropped off at the office at 845 East Main in Price or e-mailed to fyi@sunad.com. All FYI news items are subject to editing .The FYI sections are published on a space permitting basis.
Food handlers classes – Two-hour sessions are scheduled July 22, Aug. 19 and Sept. 30 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the public health department in Price. Classes will be taught July 17, Aug. 14 and Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health district in Castle Dale. Test fees are required. Southeastern Utah football officials – A meeting for experienced and new officials is slated July 28 at 6 p.m. at Carbon High School.
Helper Arts Festival youth competition – Carbon and Emery County youth in grades kindergarten through 12th grade may enter the contest. Cash prizes will be awarded in each age category. Participants may submit 2-D works like paintings, photographs and drawings as well as 3-D pieces like ceramics and sculptures. Entries should be submitted at the Helper city offices by Aug. 11. Swap meets – are scheduled Saturdays at 10 a.m. at the old Dragerton Department Store.
Learn to speak, understand English – Small group sessions are scheduled Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. at the LDS Church located at 150 South 500 East in Price.
Immunization clinic hours – Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Women’s cancer screening – Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. For information, call the public health district at 637-3671. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.
Free legal clinics – Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 7th District Court complex, located at 149 East 100 South in Price. Residents should bring all pertinent documents pertaining to legal questions. For information, residents may contact the agency toll-free at 1-800-662-1563.
Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Carbon County RSVP – Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or need the assistance of volunteers may contact the Price RSVP program at 637-9118 or call the East Carbon office.
Carbon County Family Support and Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. The crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents may use the nursery for respite, doctor and mental health appointments, court appearances, medical emergencies, family crisis, support meetings, divorce classes and to escape domestic violence. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
Child care resource and referral – For information on reserving a spot at upcoming child care provider orientation classes, contact Avis Burrows at 636-2355. Applications for startup grants are available at the office at CEU.
Cell phones for seniors – are available at Carbon County RSVP. The program provides cell phones that dial 911 in emergencies at no cost to participants. For information, seniors may call the RSVP office at 637-9118.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., closed Saturday and Sunday. Story time is scheduled Monday at 11 a.m. for toddlers, Tuesday and Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. English as a second language classes are Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m. Basic literacy classes are scheduled as needed. Helper library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, noon to 6 p.m.; Friday, noon to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library offers Internet accessible computers and will obtain books for patrons through the inter-facility loan program. For information, contact the library at 472-5601.
CEU Library – Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Hours vary during holiday weekends and school breaks. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.
Helper beautification project – focuses on improving Main Street, the river walkway and city cemetery. Donations may be placed in piggy banks at various businesses or deposited in the Helper community development account at Balance Rock Credit Union, 100 West 200 North.
Carbon Family Resource Center – Story time is Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. The free lending library open to the community includes items for children, teens, parents and grandparents.

Rape crisis hot line – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Carbon County Humane Society – offers clinics the second Tuesday of the month at 5 S. Carbon Avenue, Price. Contact the society at 637-0588 for appointments.
Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation – is a non-profit group dedicated to the care of orphaned, injured or ill wildlife. The group needs adult volunteers. Contact Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.
Price Main Street program – The board meets the first Wednesday of the month at noon in room 207 of Price City Hall. For information, contact Melanie Steele at 820-1290.
Castle Country Habitat for Humanity – is accepting applications for homes from eligible candidates. The office is located at 150 South 700 East in Price. Donations may be sent to PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501. For information, contact the organization at 637-9701.
