On Friday, April 4, Carbon traveled to Roosevelt to compete at Union High School’s track meet.
Emery High were also competing at the small meet.
The Carbon boys ran away with the first four positions in the two mile race, according to assistant coach Stew Foster. Kent Olsen was first Andrew Bates second, Kaden Kulow third and James Bates fourth.
Kent came back to place second in the 1600 meter run and anchored the boys medley relay team to a first place finish.
In the 800 meter Jared Richens had a personal best time in winning the race, with Robert Lowe finishing second, and Kaleb Kulow in fifth.
The boys hurdles were well represented by Brock Morley, Brett Wells, and Braden Watkins placing in the top five positions in both the high and low hurdles.
“Our boys also placed first in all three relays,” said Foster.
In the 200 and 400 meter the Carbon boys placed first and second with Jordan Tatton and Ryan Rasmussen leading the way.
The discus got a jolt in the arm by Stanton Rodriguez finishing fourth.
The boys finished first as a team at this meet.
In the girl’s events Felicia Olmos placed first in the 100 and 200 meter sprints as well as helping the girls relay team to a first place finish.
Patricia Smith finished second in the 800 meter run and qualified for the BYU Invitational later this month. She also placed first in the mile and was on the winning relay team.
Lydia Jeppson and Karissa Nelson looked good in the sprints. Kristin Jewkes ran to a third place finish in the girls 200 meter sprint and ran a great leg on the relay.
Megan Garvin placed second in the girls high jump and second in the javelin.
The girls finished second as a team.
On April 8, Emery High School came to Carbon for the annual duel meet.
“We only ran half of the events at this meet,” said Foster.
Kent Olsen placed first in the 800 and the 1600 meter run.
Jared Richens finished second in both the 800 and 1600 meters. Robert Lowe and Kaleb Kulow finished third and fourth in the 800 meters, while Kaleb placed third in the 1600 meters.
“Our boys placed first with Jordan Tatton and Ryan Rasmussen running great times,” said Foster.
In the hurdle event Brock Morley is closing in on Levi Swasey from Emery and should be close come the region meet.

The boys javelin was led by Brock Morley in second place, Jed Prettyman third, and Brett Wells in fourth.
The girls team was led by Patricia Smith with a first place in the 800 and 1600 meter run.
Felicia Olmos led the sprinters with a first place finish in the girls 200 meter sprint.
The girls high jump was led by Megan Garvin who jumped 5 feet 4 inches and just missed 5 feet 6 inches. Garvin also placed first in the javelin and second in the shotput.
Erika Potts in her first meet placed first in the shot to qualify her for the BYU Invitational. She also took third in the javelin.
The Dinos’ next meet will be the Carbon Invitational on Saturday, April 12, at 9 a.m. on the track at Carbon High School.
