Beau Morley watches his shot just miss going in against Grand in an earlier game. Morley scored the Dinos only goal in the loss to Delta Friday. Morley and Jose Munoz each have made four goals to lead the Dinos in scoring so far this season, Justin Jones is right behind them with three.

In the region opener, it was Delta who managed to find the net the most. Carbon lost 1-3 to the Rabbits on Friday afternoon in Delta.
Coach Patric Clifford was hopeful going in that his team had what it takes to beat Delta on their home field. Statistically, both teams played equally as hard. Shots on goal were almost identical in the first and second half. But shots on goal don’t matter if they don’t penetrate and that’s where the difference in the game was.
Delta began with a solid shot to lead. Carbon scored from a cross throw in from Travis Hobbs. Austin Dalton headed it to the corner of the goal and Beau Morley stuffed in for the score.
According to Coach Clifford, it was Carbon that contributed to their own defeat with defensive mistakes that led to the other two Delta points. But in all he was happy with his team’s effort.
“Both teams played well and when the game is as hard fought as this one was it is hard to see one team lose, especially when it is your team,” he remarked. “It was a little more physical than I would have liked. I felt like the officials let a little too much go, but I can’t really say whether that hurt or helped us in the long run.”
Two more tough contests await the Dinos next week. One of the best teams in the state, Juan Diego, rolls into town on Wednesday to play. Then North Sanpete shows up for a game on Friday afternoon. Both games will be played on the Carbon High soccer field, directly behind the high school and varsity action begins at 3:30 p.m.
