Geno Ori Jr
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Geno Ori, Jr. passed from this life on March 29, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. He was surrounded by his family and beloved wife, Gaylene.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1937 in Price to Geno Sr. and Katie Ori.
He began his long and successful career with Motorola in 1962. He began work in Motorola’s engineering training program, progressing up the ladder to senior management positions in the semiconductor products sector. When he retired, Geno has become a senior vice president with Motorola.
No one loved the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale than Geno. Being one of its strongest supporters, he spent 35 years serving on various boards. He served as president of the board of directors, board of governors, board of trustees, and was named man of the year for his tireless work on the club’s behalf.
Every year when baseball spring training began, you would find Geno working the stands for the boys and girls clubs. He was so loved that the staff of the San Francisco Giants sent him his own team shirt, a suitable gift for a man who had hoped one day to be a professional ball player. His dream was dashed by a tragic logging accident.
Not to be beaten, he proved that loving the game can be everything whether it was baseball or life.
He was a member of the Verde Vaqueros and, at this time every year, Geno along with his sons would go on the annual week long Verde ride. Proceeds from the ride would go to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale.
Some of his favorite pastimes included hunting, camping and taking his grandchildren on his six-wheeler. But above all, he enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Pinetop with his family and friends.
Everyone who has been touched by Geno will miss his infectious laugh, his enthusiasm and courage when facing problems, his insightfulness and especially his deep love of family. He was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know him.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Gaylene; three sons and a daughter, Todd (Lynn), Scott (Carrie), Rick (Jennifer) and Nicole (Larry) Klassen; grandchildren, Jeramie, Jessica, Darin, Scottie, Sierra, Kate, Blake and Alex. He will also be greatly missed by his brother, Jack Ori; nephews, Jimmy and Randy; his sister-in-law, Mary, and her husband, Mike Porter, and their two children Micheal and DeAnn; his aunts, Netta Burton, Edith Tonc and Freida Bianco.
Funeral Mass will be Friday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 7655 Main Street, Scottsdale, Ariz.. Burial will be at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 E. Shea Boulevard, Scottsdale, Ariz. Arrangements made by Messinger Indian School Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Geno’s memory to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale Foundation, Geno Ori Memorial Fund, 10515 E. Lakeview Drive, Scottsdale, AZ 85258.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Mayo hospital, TGEN and the Virginia Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale North who worked so tirelessly on Geno’s behalf. The loving, attentive care that was shown will never be forgotten.
Mario ‘Jim’ Fine
HOTCHKISS, Colo. – Mario “Jim” Fine, age 36, passed away March 30, 2008 of injuries incurred in a traffic accident.
He was born June 24, 1972.
Memorial services will be Friday, April 4, at 1 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss, Colo.
