Carbon Dino third basemen Nathan Martinez applies a tag for the third out on an ALA runner. The Dinos downed the academy 18-14 on Tuesday. |
“Quite ugly, lots of mistakes and some controversial calls but it was a win,” was how Coach Troy Moynier summed up the game between his boys and ALA on Tuesday afternoon.
Carbon came out on top with a final that looked more like a football score of 18-14.
Josh Dennison took the mound and pitched three innings.
Dylan Olson came on in middle relief and kept the team in the game. Greg Barker was the closer.
“They each did ok,” commented Moynier, “”It didn’t help that there were mistakes behind them that let ALA stay in the game.”
Carbon’s offense was helped by clutch hits from Ron Herrera and Olson. Olson isn’t usually one of the come-through hitters on the Dino squad and Moynier was pleasantly surprised.
But he also pointed out the Matt Salas only got two chances to bat for himself as they had a designated hitter in his spot.
He batted for himself in the last two innings and hit a double and a triple.
Carbon was scheduled to begin region play next Tuesday with a doubleheader at home against North Sanpete.
That game has been bumped to Wednesday, April 2 instead. Game time for the first game will start at 2 p.m on Wednesday at the Carbon High baseball field.
